The Midwest High Speed Rail Association is undertaking a series of studies to clearly define the benefits of building a 220-mph bullet train network on four corridors radiating from Chicago. Siemens has sponsored the first step in this initiative, a high-level engineering study conducted by AECOM and an economic impact assessment of the Chicago Metropolitan region conducted by the Economic Development Research Group, Inc. The Midwest Regional Rail Initiative is a cooperative effort between Amtrak, the Federal Railroad Administration, and nine states – Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin – to develop a network of 110-mph trains operating on upgraded freight tracks.
