Who We Are:
History
2008 - We launched www.transitridersalliance.org. Over
30,000 Illinois residents use this system to tell elected leaders
that passenger rail and transit are high priorities. Members also
donated nearly $10,000 in just three months to fund new office
space during our fifteenth anniversary campaign. Membership approaching
1,700.
2007 - Conducted "savechicagolandtransit.com" email campaign.
Thousands of Illinois residents contacted their representatives
to voice their support for transit funding.
2006 - Illinois General Assembly doubled Amtrak
Illinois service from $12 million to $25 million. The Midwest High
Speed Rail Association was instrumental in getting this legislation
passed.
2005 – Illinois General Assembly created the “Intercity
Passenger Rail Fund.” The Association assists local leaders
in promoting additional service on the Chicago - Springfield -
St. Louis corridor.
2004 – Conducted educational campaign to build civic support
for expanding Chicago - Springfield - St. Louis corridor.
2003 – Membership surpasses 1,000.
2002 – Hosted summit of nationwide passenger train advocates
to establish the American Passenger Rail Agreement.
2001 – Hired first full-time executive director in partnership
with the National Association of Railroad Passengers.
1999 - Grew membership from roughly 60 members to more than 600
in just one year.
1993 - The Association was founded with roughly 20 members.
